Scout Angela Sandgren - Born June 6th 2012

I'll take a break from updating all my other events for now so I can journal Scout's delivery.
The whole story; if you like those kind of details. Or just scroll down for pictures:
I went to the doctor Tuesday the 5th at 10:30am, I was dilated to 3+ and 80% effaced. I had an induction date planned for the 11th if I didn't go into labor before that, I was 2 weeks early, but I knew I wouldn't get to the 11th. My doctor didn't want to strip my membranes that day because her daughter was going through the temple for the first time that evening, and obviously she didn't want to miss it. She told me to come back Wednesday or Thursday and she would do that. I went home and did my last three clients and then officially started my maternity leave - except I hadn't had a baby. I didn't want to waste my short leave from the salon so I was hoping she would come soon. After lounging around most the day, I started having some consistent contractions at about 10:30pm. They were 5-7 minutes apart for quite awhile, but then they backed off. At about 1am I was so bored from walking around our little house that I went down to my salon and colored my hair! It needed to be done, so I figured what the hey. I could tell the contractions weren't quite enough to be putting me into full labor so I tried to sleep for awhile. When I woke up a few times I had much more painful contractions, but they were far apart. Matt went to work and my mom came over to stand guard. We want on a walk, thinking that would things progress, but after we got back, they stopped all together! Yeah! I decided to try and sleep for a bit before going to the doctor and getting checked/have her strip my membranes if needed. I am so glad I slept for two hours, it made the rest of the day much better.
At the doctor around 11am I was at a "4 1/2 and 90% effaced". The PA striped my membranes and then told me she would just go to the hospital because I was so close. So I did. :) I walked around a bit hoping to get my contractions starting a little, it didn't do much, but I found the cutest blessing dress for her in the hospital gift shop, so that was a plus! They admitted me at 12:30pm and my doctor gave the go ahead for an epidural and then to break my water. My epidural was almost painless and I was very grateful to have it by that point, however it was placed a little low in my back so towards the end I started feeling my contractions on the sides of my stomach each time. It wasn't that bad, and short lived. Everything went very smooth and the nurses I had were great. They broke my water at 1:30pm and she was born at 3:58pm.
She was 6lbs 10oz and 19 inches long. I guessed 6lbs 9oz so I was almost right! After she came out she screamed none stopped for 20 minutes. Then nursed forever. I thought she was starving! Then later we realized she had swallowed a bunch of gunk and air coming out. They suctioned 3 syringes of air and 5mml of fluid out of her tummy. She has been totally chill ever since.

My parents brought the girls over right after she was born, they were able to see her before they even took her to the nursery. To say they were excited is a serious understatement. It was "the best day ever." Sam was shaking with happiness and excitement and then Mia was the exact opposite. She is our little sentimental one and kept tearing up over everything! She was concerned about me and so touched to see her baby sister, she could not stop the tears. She was "so happy and so grateful" she told me. It was quite something to watch her reaction. They are both very sweet with her. They went down after to watch in the nursery window while they bathed her and they took me to my other room. Then they met me there, with Jed and Adam and everyone got to hold her.
Samantha, so very excited.

It was love at first sight! Matt and I can't get enough of her. :)

Oh, she is precious. Absolutely precious. So glad the delivery went well. I loved hearing about the reactions of Mia and Sam. Too cute, those two. I was already anxious to meet our new little one and this isn't helping to pass the long 3 months ahead!
